FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange
to survey Medicaid providers on alignment with the 21st Century Cures Act

Honolulu, Hawaii—Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange (HHIE), the state’s designated health information exchange, has been contracted by the Hawaii Department of Human Services, Med-QUEST Division to survey the Hawaii Medicaid provider community on their level of alignment with the 21st Century Cures Act including the Information Blocking Rule and the CMS Interoperability and Patient Access Final Rule.

The Cures Act and its rules are designed to improve secure access to health information for patients and their healthcare providers to enhance the delivery of care.
HHIE will analyze the survey results and create a report for Med-QUEST that will identify areas most in need of additional resources and support from Med-QUEST.

“Hawai‘i's healthcare providers have been tireless in their efforts to keep all of us safe during the COVID-19 health crisis and gaining a better understanding of their needs will help HHIE and Med-QUEST better assist them as the pandemic evolves into an endemic,” said Francis Chan, HHIE’s chief executive officer. “As a trusted partner to all health service entities, HHIE’s mission is to improve community health by streamlining the secure exchange of health information and to help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Hawaii’s healthcare community to support patient care.”

Additionally, HHIE has been contracted to create educational digital materials to help providers and their staff more effectively integrate health information exchange into their healthcare practices. HHIE will continue to signup providers to make use of the existing Health eNet so they can receive real-time notifications about their patients as well as gain access to information submitted by other healthcare professionals.
