Hawaii Health Information Exchange (HHIE) recognizes the potential benefits of using artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies to further its mission of creating a robust, interoperable data exchange system that betters patient care and reduces healthcare costs. Potential applications include bettering data quality, improving patient matching, and increasing operational efficiencies.

HHIE will carefully review potential solutions to ensure that they are trustworthy, safe, and transparent. As with all data in the HIE system, the privacy and confidentiality of data is of utmost importance.

The development and implementation of AI and related technologies will be undertaken with appropriate governance and review by HHIE’s Technical Infrastructure and Standards Committee and its Legal Policy Committee, as appropriate. HHIE facilitates the exchange of information and does not provide diagnosis or treatment recommendations.
