The Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange and HMSA, the state’s largest health insurance provider, recently made a giant leap forward to enhance the quality of care for more than 700,000 HMSA members.
Through a data sharing agreement, HMSA is now able to utilize the technologically infrastructure being developed by the Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange to securely transfer patient lab test results to its network of healthcare providers. Electronic access to a patient’s lab data gives physicians and other healthcare providers the results of lab tests faster to make sound clinical decisions. This aids in making proper diagnoses, reduces delays in treatment, and eliminates redundant testing if a patient is referred to another healthcare provider.
